Ellie Jane Goulding was born in Hereford England on December 30 1986. Tracey Goulding Summers is her mother. Her father Arthur Goulding comes from a funeral home-based family. Goulding's older sister Isabel as well as her second sister Jordan are children. Alex is her brother. Alex her younger brother plays the bass. Alex also is part of a group from Hereford. When she was a young girl, her mother was encouraging her to pursue a career in the instrument. The clarinet was her first instrument at the age of nine. When she was 14, she started writing songs. She didn't really start pursuing songwriting in her college time. Goulding's interest in electronica music began when she was studying for her degree.
